Washington DC Press Releases

(WashingtonDC.CityRegions.Com, July 24, 2014 ) Washington, DC -- First there were thin silicone bands, popular in the early 2000's among teenagers and "rebels". Then there were "silly bandz". Now, loom band kits are all the rage. There seems to be a connection between adolescence and silicone faux jewelry; something a person over the age of 25 may never understand. Many probably thought the fad would fade, but somehow, silicone bands continue to resurface every few years in different forms and remain as popular as NSYNC's "Dirty Pop" in 2001.
Unlike previous silicone bracelets, loom band kits allow children to create silicone delights (creating a space venturing beyond the silicone bracelet pattern; earrings, necklaces, dog collars, anything, really). Users can now add personal touches from color, length and even the pattern used to construct the bracelet. Furthermore, it can all be done with a bracelet maker called a loom board and a hook. One popular feature of loom band kits remains the ability to add charms to the bracelets. Silicone (yes, more silicone!) charms are used to add even more character to faux jewelry. Sure, it's cute on a five year old in a princess gown but it's not so appealing on a college sophomore sitting in on a resume writing conference. One company has decided to shake things up and added a different kid of charm to loom band kits .......(What? Someone had the audacity to make faux jewelry look REAL?)
Typically, silicone bracelets don't resemble "real" jewelry and loom band bracelets tend to look like played-out costume jewelry. Sure, the bands are silicone (that probably wont ever go out of style) but the charms are made from a translucent glass-like material creating a look that resembles that of a crystal or a gem. Gem-like charms are starting to gain in popularity and add a refreshing touch to the already popular silicone jewelry. Gem-like charms come in a variety of colors and shapes (hearts, crescents, stars, etc) and make really great earrings for those adventurous enough to go beyond the standard silicone bracelet. Considering how obsessed children (and young adults) are with silicone band culture, the addition of jewel look a-likes creates a space for fans to add a heightened element of imagination.
