(WashingtonDC.CityRegions.Com, December 05, 2015 ) Springfield, Virginia -- Today Robert Youngs, CEO and founder of SpunkySales, distributor of the Naneki Soprano Ukulele, reports that market studies of demand for stringed instruments shows that the ukulele has been on a steady upward trend since 2007. In comparisons with other stringed instruments in that category, such as the mandolin and banjo, interest in the ukulele has been on the rise, whereas the mandolin and banjo have been in a slow decline.
"With the help of trendsetters and other market conditions we're seeing a steady rise in popularity," says Mr. Youngs. "The ukulele has been around for a hundred and twenty-five years, and during that time it's gone from exotic new trend to kind of disregarded to back again, and we're in the midst of a rise. In 2013 alone sales of ukuleles jumped fifty-four percent."
Exposure through celebrities and public figures has helped drive this new trend. Zooey Deschanel played one while singing with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tony Blair has used one to disrupt Labour Party conventions, and Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam bought one on a trip to Hawaii and then recorded a whole album of "Ukulele Songs", which went on to win a Grammy. Music festivals have also begun to crop up in places like Reno, Milwaukee, Napa, Washington and others. This rising exposure, combined with the instrument's ease of play, have caused a surge in sales to beginners and professionals alike.
"It's such a distinctive sound," says Mr. Youngs. "And believe it or not, it actually originated in Europe and was introduced to Hawaii in 1879 by a Portuguese immigrant. The Hawaiians called the instrument the ukulele, which translates to 'jumping flea'."
SpunkySales reports that their Naneki Soprano Ukulele bundle comes with a cloth case, branded with the Naneki name, along with an extra set of strings and an electronic deviser tuner. SpunkySales is an instrument company dedicated to bringing quality musical instruments and related products to the market. The Naneki Soprano Ukulele comes with a full one year warranty.
