(WashingtonDC.CityRegions.Com, October 01, 2015 ) Arlington, Virginia -- According from U.S Energy Information Administration's (EIA) most recent Residential Energy Consumption Survey (RECS), U.S. homes built in 2000 and later consume only 2% more energy on average than homes built prior to 2000, despite being on average 30% larger. Non-weather related energy use for appliances, electronics, water heating, and lighting now account for 52% of total consumption, up from 42% in 1993.
There is an inevitable increase in energy costs; EIA reports that electricity prices will increase an average of 12.7 cents per kilowatt-hour in 2015, an incentive for families' and companies to invest in energy efficient devices, for example LED lighting devices. According to Consumer Reports "LEDs use about 80 to 85 percent less electricity than the incandescent bulbs they replace", and with LED prices dropping, the payback on the investment is faster than it was years ago.
The U.S. Department of Energy confirmed the benefit of using LEDs: "Widespread use of LED lighting has the greatest potential impact on energy savings in the United States. By 2027, widespread use of LEDs could save about 348 Tera-watts-hour of electricity. This is the equivalent annual electrical output of 44 large electric power plants (1000 megawatts each), and a total savings of more than $30 billion at today's electricity prices."
A desk lamp is an accent for homes and offices that cannot be forgotten as options to upgrade, and because of the size and electronics possible for LEDs, manufacturers have a flexibility to build more designs as well as include more features. This is the case of the newly launched blueled® SML-400. The desk lamp has a modern look, has 7 intensity-dimming options, and delivers 400 lumens at 10 watts. It claims to have a lifespan of over 30000 hours, where at 12 hours of per day, this sums up to more than 6 years of operation – standard on LED lights.
The lamp will be available in Amazon starting October 1st .
